چکیده
Abstract Laboratory scale experiments and numerical modelling were employed in this study to investigate saltwater intrusion fractured aquifers. Saline was initiated one homogeneous six experimental aquifers containing individual discontinuities of varying length orientation. Automated image processing enabled high precision quantification three variables, the toe saline wedge, width mixing zone aquifer fraction occupied by saltwater. A discrete fracture matrix model successfully utilized recreate data expand study's findings through rigorous sensitivity analysis. The presence fractures significantly impacted all variables under consideration. negatively correlated horizontal fracture's distance from systems’ seaward boundary. It demonstrated that for same aquifer, a discontinuity can either limit or augment intrusion, depending on applied hydraulic gradient. For gradients steeper than critical head difference, at which both equivalent suppressed further seaward, while milder ones it intensified. aquifer's base determined extend vertical direction. In general, longer were, more significant their impact groundwater dynamics. case factures, whenever wedges reached position, contributed widening zone, having limited effect other two characteristics. with adjacent side boundaries, distinct distribution concentration identified, distinguishing them rest

Laboratory study of the simultaneous effect of discharge well and cut of wall on reducing saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers
These days, the sea level rising and excessive harvesting of coastal aquifers has caused the intrusion of saltwater into underground water sources. In this study, the performance of the use of cut of wall, discharge well, and their simultaneous use in preventing saltwater intrusion has been evaluated in a laboratory model and under different scenarios. The results show that the appropriate use ...
متن کاملAbstraction, desalination and recharge method to control seawater intrusion into unconfined coastal aquifers
In this study, abstraction, desalination and recharge method and SEAWAT numerical model are used to investigate seawater intrusion repulsion in a hypothetical two-dimensional coastal aquifer to understand the relation of seawater intrusion with abstraction, desalination and recharge parameters (i.e. abstraction/recharge rate, wells distance and depth). Abstraction, desalination and recharge con...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of CO2 injection into deep saline aquifers
In the last two centuries, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) have augmented by about 35% as a result of increased anthropogenic emissions. To reduce these emissions, geologic Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) has been advanced as an emerging technology. Current estimations report that 60% are of the total storage capacity under the subsurface is included in deep saline for...
متن کاملCoastal Erosion Due to Seawater Intrusion into Groundwater Aquifers
Problem Statement: In general, the drinking water systems sourced from ground water (GW) contains chemicals at double the current maximum contaminant levels (MCL) of colloids. However, due to increasing demand of water, groundwater may be subjected to over-exploitation and the natural equilibrium is thus disturbed. A steady-state condition is established between seawater and freshwater in a coa...
